Telford school wins praise for turning fortunes around
These children have something to shout about - their school has turned its fortunes around just two years after being told it needed improvement.
Inspectors have praised Aqueduct Primary School for taking "decisive action" to improve standards in the classroom.
The school was visited by inspectors last month and reported that "teaching is now good and some is outstanding so pupils achieve well at all stages of the school".
In a report about the visit, inspectors said: "Recent improvements in pupils' progress are resulting in higher standards in reading, writing and mathematics.
"Teachers make regular checks on how well pupils are learning and use the information well to provide work that moves pupils on quickly.
"Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school. They have good attitudes to learning."
In an inspection in November 2012, the school was described as "requires improvement" but following this return visit, inspectors said they were pleased with the work by both teachers and governors to improve standards.
The report said: "Since the previous inspection, governors have improved their individual and collective skills in school governance. "Their contribution to school improvement is now considerable. They ask searching questions and are well informed about the school's effectiveness.
"Leaders carry out regular and detailed checks on the quality of teaching and learning. Teachers are keen to develop their teaching skills and they use the feedback given to them effectively to improve."
Jo Clarke, acting headteacher of the school, said the report was reward for the hard work of teaching staff and also praised the contribution of pupils and parents.
She said: "We are absolutely thrilled."
