Christopher Wong, 18, who attends Concord College in Shrewsbury, has qualified for the second round of this year's national Biology Olympiad.
He was awarded a gold medal for his efforts, which put him in the top five per cent out of the 5,000-plus students who entered nationwide.
A total of 15 Concord College students were among those competing in the sixth form competition, which was aimed at biology students in their final year.
