Prestfelde School, which educates children aged between three and 13, wants to replace the ageing building at London Road with a modern chapel that could also be used for assemblies, prize-givings and performances.

In a design statement submitted to Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury-based Quest design and planning, working on behalf of the applicant Capital Construction of Battlefield, said: "The building could used as a drama and dance studio, freeing up the school gym for sports.

"This is a state-of-the-art facility that replaces current sub-standard buildings and secures excellent facilities for the school and its pupils.

"The building will be simple in form (with) a curved roof."

Contractors also plan to carry out low level landscaping.

The matter will go before the planning committee of Shrewsbury Town Council on May 20 for members to make comments or objections before being considered by Shropshire Council at a date to be fixed.

No one was available from Prestfelde for comment.
