Man who drank 'four pints of ale' in pub with friends gets 17 month driving ban

A 66 year-old man has been banned from driving for 17 months after he admitted being over the drink drive limit following a four-pint meeting in the pub with friends.

Nigel Borrett, of Stretton Avenue, Newport, pleaded guilty to driving a black Kia Sportage on Boughey Road, Newport, with 61 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath when the limit is 35.

Hannah Baddeley, prosecuting, at Telford Magistrates Court on Tuesday said when the police stopped Borrett at midnight on December 15, 2023 they could smell alcohol on his breath and he admitted to drinking "four pints of ale."
