The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before magistrates in Welshpool on Monday where he admitted six charges: possession of a Class B drug (cannabis resin); assault by beating of an emergency worker; using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress; criminal damage; racially aggravated intentional harassment/alarm; and using threatening or abusive words with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence.

Prosecutor Suzanne Cartwright recounted his crime spree on September 15, which started when he started abusing a man walking along Welshpool High Street with his young child.

She said the teenager screamed at the father, who he had never met, shouting “I will hit you” and “I will fight you” at him, leaving the tearful and frightened toddler hiding behind his dad.

Miss Cartwright then detailed how the 17-year-old told his victim: “Next time you are without a kid I’m going to finish you, I’m going to punch your skull to bits, you little rat.”

Footage filmed by witnesses was said to show the defendant - who ran off when his victim called police - being "aggressive and agitated".

Later that day he was seen in another part of town kicking and headbutting a fence.

Miss Cartwright said witness explained how "there was nobody else around" and "the defendant appeared to be arguing with himself".
