The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court after an earlier trial found him guilty of sexual assault and engaging in sexual activity. It relates to an incident in Market Drayton on November 29, 2014, when he dragged the female victim into a hedge.

Mr Robert Edwards, prosecuting, told the court the victim had been bullied at school and now "stays in a lot" as a result of what happened.

Mrs Debra White, for the defendant, said her client had a "troubled background", but accepted there were aggravating features in the case.

The judge handed him a sexual harm prevention order.
