Jail after Telford man, 22, found with cannabis again
A Telford man has been jailed for eight months for possessing cannabis with intent to supply – just months after receiving a suspended sentence for the same offence.
Officers in Brookside, noticed the smell of cannabis from the building Richard Lancaster lived in and on entering discovered the smell inside was stronger.
Lancaster's girlfriend Jade Wilson let the officers in while he was out but on his return, when asked by officers whether there was cannabis in his home, he directed them to the living room where it was, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard.
Lancaster, 22, of Briarwood, had pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
The offence occurred on September 2 last year – just months after he had been sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 12 months.
Phillip Beardwell, prosecuting, said that initially Lancaster was arrested on suspicion of possession but bags of cannabis, paraphernalia and a mobile phone were found, resulting in him being arrested for possession with intent to supply. In total 58.82 grammes of cannabis was discovered.
Judge Peter Barrie sentenced Lancaster to eight months in prison – five months for his latest offence and three months for the breach, to run consecutively.
He will serve half the sentence in prison, with the rest on licence.
