Police plea as golden statue rapist jailed for seven years
A street entertainer who performed in Shrewsbury and throughout Mid Wales has been jailed for seven years after being convicted of rape.
Steven Beeks, 50, was yesterday convicted of a rape in Newtown and causing actual bodily harm in Shrewsbury.
Police believe he may have preyed on more victims and have called for people to step forward. They have also released an image of Beeks in connection with the appeal.
The rape happened on September 23 and the actual bodily harm offence on September 6, both last year.
Beeks, of no fixed abode, worked throughout Wales and Shrewsbury as a gold-painted living statue.
He was found guilty by a jury at Caernarfon Crown Court yesterday.
Inspector Diane Davies, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said: "I am taking the unusual steps of releasing his image into the public domain in the belief that there may be other victims of crime that have yet to be identified by the investigation team."
She added: "I would encourage anyone who has concerns regarding Mr Beeks to contact their local police, and they will be advised on their options and support services available to them.
"I would like to take the opportunity to thank the people who have assisted the investigation, particularly the ladies who gave evidence at court. They showed immense courage and resilience."
Police can be contacted through the 101 number.
