Plans for Market Drayton business park expansion are backed
Plans to breathe new life into a business park in Shropshire have been backed by councillors.
Market Drayton Town Council voted in favour of a proposal to create 41 employment units for office, industrial and storage at the Tern Valley Business Park.
Redstart Construction Limited has submitted a planning application to Shropshire Council for the scheme, which has the potential to create more than 600 jobs.
Speaking at last night's meeting of the town council's planning committee, Councillor Roy Aldcroft said: "It's taken a while but it is certainly welcome."
Applicants signed a deal with Shropshire Council to take over phase two of the park earlier this year and have now outlined their plans for the site.
Companies from the town and from further afield are now being offered the chance to move onto the site, which cost £3.5million to build. Councillors in Market Drayton hope the units get snapped up quickly if the scheme gets final approval by Shropshire Council.
Meanwhile, councillors also backed plans to extend the opening hours of the town's Asda store in Stafford Street by more than 40 hours per week.
The company applied to Shropshire Council to vary the conditions imposed on opening hours when planning permission was first granted in 1999.
Last night's meeting was also told that plans improve a war memorial in the town were progressing well.
Work to be carried out at the memorial includes planting new trees, installing a ramp and erecting a flag pole in the area.
The council has agreed to display plans of war graves in the town's cemetery together with a list of those servicemen laid to rest there to make it easier to locate graves. Plans are also in the pipeline to improve play areas in the town, including Longlands Play Area.
