On Sunday (May 4), just three days after last week's local elections in Shropshire, the new Hodnet councillor Donna Edmunds was suspended by her own party.

The suspension centred on a social media post from before the election, where she said she was waiting for a "real alternative" to the right-wing party and then planned to "defect".

Following the suspension, Councillor Edmunds resigned from Reform UK.

She has now confirmed she has no plans to step down as Hodnet's councillor.

"Everything I put in my literature I stand by and I will still be doing that as an independent," she said.

"It's certainly true that most of the people who voted for me will have gone into that ballot box looking for the Reform badge and not my name.
