'Secret supper' to take diners on mystery tour of Shrewsbury restaurants - and you could join them

A “secret supper” will take diners on a mystery tour of some of a town’s best restaurants - and you could join them.

Self Help Africa, a Shrewsbury-based charity, is putting on the event on Wednesday, March 26 to raise money to support sub-Saharan families grow more nutritious food and boost their income with farming.

The charity supper will see 240 diners enjoy a starter, main and dessert at three secret restaurants in the county town.

The event will begin with a welcome drink at Tanners Wines in Wyle Cop, before guests are guided to a selection of the best restaurants in town. 

The locations of the restaurants and dishes will be revealed on the night, adding an element of mystery to the dining experience.

Self Help Africa has previously held 15 secret suppers, raising more than £130,000 through ticket sales, sponsorships, raffle and donations.

Sophie Crockford, fundraising officer for the charity, said: “Our secret suppers are a highlight of our fundraising calendar, bringing together 240 guests for a great cause.

“The participating restaurants showcase their varied menus and specialities, leaving many guests keen to return!

“It’s a celebration of Shrewsbury’s upcoming food scene. From discovering new restaurants to tasting dishes you won’t forget, it’s the ultimate food lover’s night out, all whilst supporting the work of Self Help Africa.”

Katie Morris, from event sponsor Morris and Company, said: “As a longstanding company here in Shrewsbury, we’re delighted to be supporting Self Help Africa’s wonderful secret supper across the town this spring.

“As keen supporters of community events in general, it is great to be part of this charitable fundraising event which throws a worthy spotlight on some of the incredible culinary hot spots we are lucky enough to have in our town.”
