Refurbishment work at public toilets in Kington will go ahead after the council agreed to pay extra costs.

The project at the Recreation Ground toilets was reduced in size previously because of a shortage of time to get quotes for a grant application.

But the council put in a bid for a grant from the Community Infrastructure Fund to replace handwash units.

The bid was accepted and a £8,977 grant was awarded with the town council expected to pay the remaining costs of £2,244.

The project has to be completed and paid for no later than December 31 to receive the grant funding and the claims must be submitted by February 28 2025.

At a recent meeting, town clerk Liz Kelso said following a site visit by suppliers Wallgate, they identified a need for an electrical conditions report and an asbestos report before they would install the items.

Ms Kelso said the extra costs would be about £1,000.

Members agreed to pay for the extra costs to enable the refurbishment work to go ahead.
