Fears pupils being put at risk by parkers near Bridgnorth schools
This is the chaotic scene on a main road by two of Bridgnorth's primary schools.
Cars are crammed in wherever there is a space – even though free parking permits are provided by the schools for car parks on the same road.
Fears have been voiced that someone will be hurt by the dangerous parking on this road, as parents and children weave in between cars to cross the roads and have to edge around cars on the road as they are parked on the pavement.
Signs are displayed asking drivers to not park on the yellow zigzags outside the schools, but in just half an hour one driver stopped outside St Leonard's for a parent to hop out of the car and wait for their child.
The two headteachers at St John's Catholic Primary School and St Leonard's CE Primary School have sent letters into Bridgnorth Town Council and the police to look into the parking, but say the situation has not changed.
Kay Ferriday, headteacher of St Leonard's CE Primary School, said: "The situation with parking arrangements for both St Leonard's and St John's remains unchanged. People still insist on parking on the main road or down side streets, even mounting the pavement in an attempt at a quick drop off.
"Drivers need to take more care. We have had a couple of near-misses where motorists have refused to give way, and insisted on squeezing past other vehicles, again mounting the pavements. On occasion verbal abuse has been exchanged."
PCSO Mandy Leek said: "Once again the complaints are regarding the way some parents are parking."
