25 new jobs as burger maker plans £3 million expansion
A burger maker in Mid Wales will create 25 new jobs after announcing plans to build a new £3 million factory.
The Burger Manufacturing Company, based in Builth Wells, will increase the size of its premises by 2,967 square metres, or over 30,000 sq ft, creating 25 new jobs over the next 18 months and securing the future of its existing workforce of 32.
The extension to the existing holding freezer facility will result in a new factory that is more than three times the size of the original building, which was opened in September 2000.
"Last year we produced over 37.5 million frozen beef burgers predominantly for the fast food and catering industry and there is a demand for us to produce more," said general manager Dave Mussell.
"Distribution to all types of catering outlet is made by our holding company Sparks Catering Butchers Ltd and strategically placed independent frozen food wholesalers in the UK and Europe.
"With this new facility, which will house the new machinery, we have already purchased, we will be able to triple our production thus ensuring a sustainable future for the company and our staff."
The new extension, comprising a larger production area, further freezers, and offices and staff canteen will allow the company to carry out bar coding which is necessary for the cash and carry sector.
Backed by a grant from the Welsh Government, the new building is scheduled to be up and running by next July.
