Stefan Restall, of Betton Road, had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to causing actual bodily harm to the man who had been drinking at The Sandbrook Vaults in the town on June 21 last year.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that Restall, 40, had visited the pub but was told by the landlord that he was barred.

As a result he hit out at the landlord and another man, causing him to cut the man's lips and loosen several of his teeth.

Paul Spratt, prosecuting, said that Restall threw one punch which caused the injuries.

"The man suffered permanent injuries to two of his teeth and he had swollen lips which were bleeding and cut. He had to have three stitches in his mouth as a result. Following the attack he has not been able to participate in sports at his local rugby club."

Andrew Holland for Restall said that his client had changed his life since the incident and no longer went out socially.

Judge Jim Tindal said: "That night, being told you were barred from the pub, you lost it. You were upset with the landlord. But you punched another man hard, once in the mouth.

"This was a serious injury in the context of the offence of actual bodily harm. There were no other aggravating features. It is a reminder of the consequences of going out and getting drunk. I hope you can put this behind you."

Restall was sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for one year and placed on curfew for four months. He was also ordered to pay £200 court costs.
