Marathon star Amy Hughes embarks on new festive challenge
Marathon girl Amy Hughes is stepping out of her comfort zone for a 12 Days of Christmas sports challenge.
The athlete, who last year ran 53 marathons in 53 days, dreamt up the challenge to raise money for charity and to inspire others to take up sport and exercise.
1 Alex Ferguson's Santa Run: Amy will be lining up with hundreds of Santas to take part in the Manchester United Foundation Santa Run, a 5km fun run finishing at Old Trafford.
2 Golf: Amy is having a golf lesson with top professional and Nike coach Dan Haughain at the Adlington Golf Centre in Cheshire.
3 Wheelchair racing: Paralympian Hannah Cockcroft has challenged Amy to a wheelchair race.
4 Diving:Amy will be at the Aquatic Centre in Manchester to conquer her biggest fear, going off one of the high diving boards.
5 Judo: Telford's own judo Olympian Kelly Edwards and lots of junior members will introduce Amy to the sport of judo at the Wrekin Star Judo Club.
6 Goggle Box: Amy is joining one of the Goggle Box stars Baasit Tapper in a 10-mile run in Derbyshire.
7 Soap star: Amy has her fingers crossed that she will join a soap star for a run around a set of a favourite television show.
8 In-line skating: Jenna Downing the world champion in-line skater is giving Amy a lesson. Jenner has broken her ankle so won't be able to pull on her skates herself.
9 Swimming: Amy will join members of the paralympic team for a swimming session.
10 Climbing Snowdon: Weather permitting, Amy and her boyfriend Dave Keighley will tackle Wales's highest peak on Christmas Eve. Dave's forces training mean he is well equipped to help Amy on the mountain.
Olympic and paralympic stars, world champions and television celebrities are among those who will be putting the 27-year old from Oswestry through her paces over the 12 days until Christmas Eve.
Money raised will be divided between Amy's The 53 Foundation and the Kelly Holmes Foundation.
With two challenges still to firm up, Amy currently has 10 to complete.
"I want people to realise there are so many sports and activities they can take part in. I also want to show that sport can be fun," she said.
She will begin her challenge tomorrow by taking part in the Manchester United Foundation Santa Run, a 5km fun run finishing at Old Trafford.
From there she will face what she says will be her biggest challenge, but the one that is the most exciting when she meets up with Olympic diver Freddie Woodward.
"This will really be outside my comfort zone, but I am determined to do a dive," she said. "Although it is the challenge I am most scared of it is the one I am most looking forward to."
A more sedate challenge will golf with top professional and Nike coach, Dan Haughain at the Adlington Golf Centre in Cheshire.
And although in a wheelchair, things will certainly not be sedate when Paralympian, Hannah Cockcroft challenges the Shropshire athlete to a wheelchair race.
One of her challenges brings Amy back to her home county when she joins Commonwealth silver medallist Kelly Edwards and dozens of junior members at the Wrekin Star Judo Club.
The challenges will end, weather permitting, on Christmas Eve, when Amy and her boyfriend Dave Keighley will tackle Snowdon on Christmas Eve.
