'The Big Conversation' includes a survey on the council's website which is asking residents for their thoughts on the services the council should provide. It comes in the wake of news that Government cuts will leave the authority with only a quarter of the funding it currently receives – leading it to stop providing of a number of services.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council's Cabinet member leading the consultation, said: "In every home, organisation and business in Shropshire people have to manage a budget, prioritise and make important spending decisions.

"This is the same for the council, and we really want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to influence these decisions by showing us which services are the most important to them and their communities."

"As part of this Big Conversation we want people to tell us their views on the services they value, the services they don't, and the services people and their communities may consider to run themselves.

"The Big Conversation will continue over the next five years. This initial survey is the first phase of this conversation."
