Shrewsbury A5 traffic lights out of action until next week
Traffic lights on a busy Shrewsbury roundabout will be out of action until next week after a car drove into them.
The lights on Emstrey Island on the A5 have been covered up and will be replaced next week by Highways England contractors.
A Highways England spokesman said: "The damaged traffic lights use an automated priority system to keep traffic flowing during busy periods. Temporary lights cannot do this: and work on a fixed cycle.
"As this is a busy roundabout, temporary lights would not be efficient - drivers would have to queue for a fixed period of several minutes, regardless of traffic. This would cause frustration which could be avoided.
"So, we are working to fix the MOVA lights and reinstate them as soon as possible, to help keep this busy island flowing well during its busiest periods."
