Oswestry man goes on trial for attempted murder of partner
An Oswestry man has gone on trial for attempted murder amid allegations that he launched a frenzied knife attack upon his partner after she told him to leave and was in the process of packing his bags.

The victim, who began a relationship with defendant Scott David Jones in about November last year, ended up with potentially life-threatening stab wounds during the attack at her home in Wrexham, a jury at Mold Crown Court was told yesterday.
Jones, 40, of St Mary's Close in Chirk, near Oswestry, denies attempted murder following the incident on May 10.
The jury was told he had already admitted an alternative charge of wounding her with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Prosecuting barrister Mark Connor said the attack had followed an argument.
Mr Connor said Jones accused her of being drunk and of insulting him the previous evening, but she said he had overheard her referring to a television programme.
He said Jones then accused her of not paying back some money and became very angry.
"He then grabbed her around the throat and punched her to the mouth while choking her," he said.
Mr Connor said she managed to run to her mother's house nearby, and when Jones followed she told him the relationship was over.
She then went back to her flat to pack his belongings. "He begged her for another chance but when he realised she was serious he lost control," Mr Connor told the jury.
"He began to lunge towards her making slashing and stabbing movements. She did not see a knife but became aware she was being stabbed."
He added Jones stopped and discarded the knife in the kitchen while the victim ran from the house screaming.
The victim suffered six wounds consistent with a knife, three to her abdomen and three to her arm.
"The three wounds to the abdomen had the potential to prove life-threatening," said Mr Connor.
Jones was arrested the following day at an address in Wrexham.
The trial before continues.
