A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a spate of burglaries in Ludlow that appear to have targeted shops, restaurants and pubs in recent months.

In addition, a man suspected of having a carload of stolen goods from burglaries in the town was arrested on the A49 and a separate group of men have been arrested in Worcester linked to house burglaries in Ludlow and north Shropshire.

Inspector Robert Thomas, of West Mercia Police, said the 37-year-old man, who is from the local area, was arrested on Wednesday.

He said: "It is the second arrest in relation to the commercial burglaries in the town centre and on the outskirts. He is on conditional bail while officers continue investigations – but we have other suspects in mind to arrest."

Inspector Thomas added that police planned to bring in a number of suspects to help with their inquiries to bring those responsible to justice.

The man has been bailed with conditions to appear at a local police station later in the year. His car was seized, but over "driving matters" rather than criminal ones.

Meanwhile, in Worcester a group of eastern European men have been apprehended in connection with house burglaries.
