New road opens after Jackfield site works
A new road taking traffic through the site of the £17.6 million Jackfield Stabilisation Project was opening today.
It will replace a temporary track used to help people reach the far end of Jackfield while engineers work on site. Further work will take place in a few weeks time to finish the newly-laid road.
As part of a two-year project to stabilise land movement on the southern bank of the River Severn, reinforced concrete piles are being placed in the hillside. The work is nearly complete and only 70 piles out of 2,300 remain to be installed.
Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council's deputy leader, said: "It is a hugely positive step that the new road will open to traffic today. What people will see is by no means the finished version of the road but at least it will give a better access to homes and businesses. I would like to thank everyone for their patience."
The council has contributed £5.6 million towards the stabilisation programme.
