Jailed: Man gets three years over sexual assault of teenager in Newtown
A man has been jailed for three years and ordered to register as a sex offender for life after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
Stephen John Dovey, 47, denied four charges of sexual activity with a child, which Mold Crown Court heard yesterday had had a profound effect upon her.
But he had been convicted at an earlier trial at Caernarfon Crown Court of the offences, which occurred in Newtown.
Sentencing him, Recorder Mr Wyn Lloyd Jones placed Dovey on a sexual offences prevention order for an unlimited amount of time.
He said that Dovey, of Churchill, Somerset, would have to register with the police as a sex offender indefinitely. The judge said the defendant had shown no remorse.
Mr Simon Rogers, prosecuting, said that in a victim impact statement, she said she felt sad and angry, punished herself for what had happened to her and did not want to get out of bed.
Mr Myles Wilson, for Dovey, said his client was a man of no previous convictions and was of positive good character.
References spoke of him being a kind, family man, and he had worked hard since leaving school.
He had worked as an industrial engineer and would lose his job if he went to prison.
The defendant knew prison was a likely outcome, Mr Wilson said.
