Ludlow solar farm given green light

A large scale solar farm has been given permission to go ahead without a single objection, a feat hailed as "unprecedented".

The 5MW farm on a former quarry site at Bromfield, near Ludlow, will help power Ludlow Food Centre and the nearby gravel works.

Work is expected to start early next year, with a smaller 480kW scheme directly powering Bromfield Sand and Gravel, to start this autumn.

Every large solar farm that has been proposed in the south Shropshire countryside in the past year has been turned down – a couple more than once – with campaigners launching fierce protests against those still under consideration.

But the 19,200-panel Bromfield plans won the support of the Campaign to Protect Rural England.
