Changes to Oswestry junction after car hits shop
Changes will be made to an Oswestry junction where a car ploughed into the side of a shop, following complaints over its safety.
The traffic lights and road layout at the crossroads of Church Street, Upper Church Street, Upper Brook Street and Lower Brook Street will be amended by Shropshire Council.
Engineers were asked to look into the issue by Oswestry Town Council's development and planning committee and visited the site earlier this month with Brian Williams from West Mercia Police;s road safety unit to discuss the problems.
Huw Roberts, traffic signals engineer with Mouchel Ltd, Shropshire Council's contractor, said that some improvements will be made as soon as possible once costs have been agreed.
"We have agreed to amend the operation of the signals by separating the main road approached of Upper and Lower Brook Street so they run in separate stages," he said.
"The changes will improve the safety and avoid right-turning traffic having to wait in the centre of the junction for a gap in the flow of traffic. The right turn filter on Upper Brook Street will also be removed.
"We're liaising with our signals contractor to confirm costs for the changes to the signals and the date for the changes to be made."
