£1,000 bill after Newport pensioner unlawfully used blue badge

A 76-year-old Newport man has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 after admitting unlawfully using a disabled blue badge for parking.

Brian Atkins, of Wellington Road, was sentenced in his absence at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday after pleading guilty by post.

Atkins is said to have committed the offence on September 12 last year in Shrewsbury.

He was fined £270, ordered to pay prosecution costs of £737.88 and a Government victim surcharge of £27.
