Woman's clothing ripped as she fights off assailant in Market Drayton attack
A woman fought off an attacker who ripped her clothing in Market Drayton, in an assault which police say could have been sexually motivated.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the woman in her twenties was attacked near the junction of Sandy Lane and Sutton Lane.
The woman was approached from behind at about 10.50pm on Sunday but managed to struggle free and escaped with minor injuries.
The attacker repeatedly pulled at her clothes and ripped her upper clothing but she managed to run towards the town's golf club.
The victim was wearing a white jumper and dark jeans and is about 5ft 1ins, of slim build with dark hair.
She had left The Vaults pub at about 10.50pm and walked past the church and down Kiln Bank Road.
She then crossed the main road and walked over the bridge – the attack happened near the junction around this time.
Senior investigating officer, detective chief inspector Tom Harding said: "The motive of this attack is currently unknown but we are working on the basis that it could have been either an attempted robbery or a sexually motivated attack.
"We are urgently seeking information from the public about this incident and ask anyone who may have seen the victim or anyone else in the area at the time of the offence or has any information which may be relevant to this investigation to come forward with the details as soon as possible."
