Shropshire beauty spot homes proposal is delayed
A decision whether to allow an 85-home housing estate next to a Shropshire beauty spot has been delayed by at least two months.
The plans put forward by Morris Property to build homes and holiday chalets next to popular walking spot Caer Caradoc, near Church Stretton, will now be decided upon in May at the earliest, it was revealed at a public meeting last night.
More than 150 people packed into Church Stretton's Silvester Horne Institute to talk about a plan of action against the application, which has so far received 423 formal objections by both residents and many if the town's official bodies.
Objectors say building next to the hill fort in the heart of the Shropshire Hills AONB would be akin to an "act of vandalism".
The application was expected to go before Shropshire Council's south planning committee on March 10, but has been put on hold as the Highways Agency have requested more detail on access to the New House Farm site, specifically a new right-turning lane on the A49 trunk road.
John Woolmer of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, who called the public meeting along with representatives from Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership and Strettons Civic Society, said campaigners would be protesting at Shirehall and on any site visit by councillors before the decision is made.
