It was at the centre of a major rescue operation after it became trapped in a tiny gap between two houses.

The inquisitive male black cat went exploring close to home.

But his curiosity got the better of him, and he found himself trapped in a three-inch gap between two houses.

When the cat's owners found they couldn't release the pet from the gap they called the RSPCA for help.

Inspectors Phil Lewis and Chris Dunbar went to the scene in Bridge Street, Llanfair Caereinion, to free him. Inspector Lewis said: "The cat got trapped in a three-inch gap between two houses.

"I was helped by Chris, who was able to clear debris away from the gap.

"The cat was then able to squeeze closer to him, allowing Chris to grab him out from the gap to release him."

Apart from being a little cold, the cat, whose name is not known, was returned to his owner safe and sound.

"He was an inquisitive cat that got himself into a difficult situation," Inspector Lewis said.

He revealed that he had carried out a similar rescue before in the same location.

"About 20 years ago I was called to the same house to rescue a dog that had become trapped in the same manner," he said.

"That dog was also rescued successfully."
