New 40mph limit in place on busy Shropshire border bridge after tractor crash
Road safety measures have been introduced in the the wake of recent crashes on a bridge on the Shropshire border.
The Highways Agency has put in 40mph signs and a temporary structure on the A5/A483 Chirk bypass to stop motorists overtaking.
It comes after two brothers were inches from death when the tractor they were travelling in was involved in a collision on the busy route. The tractor came to rest with its front wheels over the safety railings on the bridge, hundreds of feet above the River Ceiriog with the Wilson brothers escaping without injury.
Two people in cars suffered injuries not thought to be serious.
Councillor Terry Evans,Wrexham County Borough councillor for Chirk South, told last night's meeting of Chirk Town Council that the interim measures seemed to be working.
"Thankfully no one was killed or seriously injured it the crash last week but this could have been a dreadful tragedy. These brothers were incredibly lucky," he said.
"Since the temporary signs and barriers were put in place it has slowed the traffic down tremendously."
