Star Witness: Winter mist brings touch of magic

It's as cold as January should be – and that has brought a misty beauty to landmarks in Shropshire.

Temperatures at night are set to drop to as -5C (23F) throughout the region this week – and barely break freezing through the day. Snow is also forecast for this evening, with showers falling on higher ground.

The cold weather is good news for contributors to the Shropshire Star's Star Witness online gallery.

This picture of a chilly Shrewsbury Quarry was taken by Star reader Sharon Hedges, of Shrewsbury. It is one of scores that form part of a winter gallery.

Meanwhile drivers were warned to take extra care on the roads in icy conditions and to clear their cars of ice before setting off.

And there are also flood alerts along the River Severn in parts of Shropshire.
