Passenger travelling between Shrewsbury and Hereford were delayed by about 90 minutes last night while Network Rail inspected the railway bridge.

Paul Tapley, a spokesperson for Arriva Trains said: "Generally, when a road vehicle hits a bridge, we have to stop all the rail traffic so inspections can be carried out to make sure everything is safe.

"As soon as we are told it is safe, we can get things back up and running.

"It happened at about 8.30pm on Tuesday and the line was fully re-opened by 10.45pm."
