Worfield care home bungalow plans approved
Plans for 14 bungalows in Worfield where elderly people can live independently while still receiving care have been approved by councillors.
The homes which are to be built in the grounds of Bradeney House care home in Worfield, will allow elderly people to live on their own, while still having access to regular care from the professionals working in the main building.
The plans were unanimously approved by members of Shropshire Council's south planning committee when their meeting was held at Shirehall.
Members said they felt the homes would offer a service that was much needed in the Bridgnorth and South Shropshire area.
Councillor Madge Shineton said: "There is a need in south Shropshire for this kind of application.
"I am pleased to see that these homes are two bedroom.
"Quite often there are couples who, because of medical treatment they are receiving, need separate bedrooms."
"I am going to fully support, I think this is much needed."
Councillor Gwilym Butler said: "This will go a long way towards helping to keep people independent in their own homes as long as possible.
"How often do you see a care home that is able to provide a scheme like this right next door.
"The experts don't need to be bussed in to provide care, the people are already on site," he added.
Councillor John Hurst-Knight said: "This is a perfect opportunity to show the rest of Shropshire what Worfield is doing.
"I was very excited to read this application when it was presented to me last week.
"This is a way forward which will encourage people to live independently in the way that they wish."
Councillor Stuart West, chairman of the committee, said: "The need for this type of development is going to grow and grow."
The plans, which were on green belt land, were unanimously approved subject to conditions that the homes be legally tied to the care home to prevent them from going on the open market and that visibility on the access road to the development be improved.
