Flats plan for Shrewsbury office block

A block of offices currently used by government agencies in Shrewsbury could be turned into flats, planning officers have been told.

Princess House in the Square houses NHS facilities, pensions offices and the Job Centre but may be turned into 50 flats if leases are not renewed.

The plans, which have not yet been submitted, were put to Shrewsbury Town Council at a planning meeting last night.

Charles Howell, of property agents Cooper Green Pooks, said the building was already in poor condition and improvements were needed should work go ahead.

He said: "It needs work doing to it and we have to consider some alternative uses unless someone wants to take it on for the next 20 years."

Councillors raised concerns about noise complaints.
