Dispute over claims on Ludlow supermarket plans

Claims that Ludlow  is split in half over plans for a new supermarket have been challenged.

More than 85 per cent of the Ludlow Residents Association have voted against controversial plans for a new supermarket at Rocks Green on the outskirts of the town.

The association has added its voice to members of the Ludlow Chamber Trade, who have vowed to fight a planning application expected to be submitted by September.

But Simon Hoare, agent for developers Blackfriars, said a consultation this summer had shown there was roughly a "50/50" split between those in the town for a new supermarket and those against.

Ludlow Residents' Association secretary Robin Pote disputed that claim.

He said most committee members of the residents' association had attended two consultation days at the start of July and found it "very hard to find any who were speaking in favour".

He said he suspected many in favour of the plans were visitors to the town, not residents.
