Inquest opened into river death man

An inquest has opened into the death of 49-year-old father-of-four whose body was found in the River Teme at Ludlow.

Martin Powell-Bevan, of Wheeler Road, Ludlow had been reported missing by his family and his body was found during a river search last Tuesday.

An inquest was opened yesterday by Mr John Ellery, coroner for Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, who adjourned the hearing until November 13.

A family announcement in the Shropshire Star described Mr Powell-Bevan as the "beloved son of Eileen and the late Leslie and stepson of Alan, partner of Stacey and adored daddy of Chloe, Becky, Isla and Martha, cherished brother of Rose, Sue and the late John and Chris."

Mr Powell-Bevan's family have requested bright colours are worn to a a service of thanksgiving for his life.

The service will be held at the Parish Church of St Laurence, Ludlow on Monday at 1pm.

This will be followed by a burial at Ludlow cemetery when flowers will be welcome.

Donations in Mr Powell-Bevan's memory will be given to Vision Homes Association in Tollgate Road, Ludlow.

A search had begun for Mr Powell-Bevan after his family raised concerns about his whereabouts at about 10am last Tuesday morning.

A river search was mounted that evening involving Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service boat crews and the police helicopter after his car was found near the river on Temeside in Ludlow.

Mr Powell-Bevan's body was recovered from the water at about 6.30pm.

Police say his death is not being treated as suspicious.
