Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash with lorry near Bridgnorth
A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries in a collision with a lorry near Bridgnorth.
The 50-year-old from Walsall had to be airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham yesterday following the accident on the A454 at Shipley.
The accident happened just after 8.15pm. The Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, the MERIT trauma team consisting of a trauma doctor and a critical care practitioner, a paramedic area support officer and two ambulance crews attended.
The lorry driver also suffered minor injuries.
The Bridgnorth to Wolverhampton Road was closed
Chris Kowalik, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The motorcyclist, a man in his fifties, had a broken right arm, a broken leg and a suspected fractured pelvis.
"He was fully immobilised, given pain relief and was flown by the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
"The lorry driver had pain to his bicep. He was taken by land ambulance to Princess Royal Hospital as a precaution."
Fire crews were called to three other crashes on Shropshire roads.
The three incidents happened yesterday afternoon and saw nobody suffer any injuries requiring hospital treatment.
The first happened on the A49 at Ludlow and involved two vehicles. One crew from Ludlow attended at 2.13pm and the crew helped make the vehicle safe before returning to base at 2.49pm.
In the next incident, a crew from Albrighton attended a two vehicle collision in Harriots Hayes Lane at 12.38pm. No action was taken by the crew, which returned to base at 12.50pm.
Finally, a crew from Bishops Castle attended a collision on the A489 at Lydham, Bishops Castle at 6.33pm. Nobody was injured and the crew left the scene at 6.54pm after making the vehicle safe.
