CCTV cameras to be installed at Shrewsbury sports ground
Crime-busting CCTV cameras are to be installed at a sporting ground in Shrewsbury to deter anti-social behaviour.
The £500 system, with four cameras, will be installed at the County Ground multi-sports venue at Frankwell Quay in Shrewsbury where two cricket clubs are based along with a canoeing club.
At a meeting of Shrewsbury Town Council's recreation and leisure committee held at the Guildhall last night, clerk Helen Ball said: "It is one of the best-used assets in Shrewsbury but it does tend to attract youngsters who are over-zealous with what they get up to.
"There are lots of little areas where you can hide there and we can't afford to lose these clubs because of someone's behaviour."
Councillor Kathleen Owen said that the cameras would provide a good deterrent for those likely to cause anti-social behaviour.
Councillors agreed to fund the cameras and for them to be installed at the first opportunity.
