Luke Smith, 32, broke down in tears at Shrewsbury Crown Court as Judge Robin Onions discussed his forthcoming trial with solicitors.
He is charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention on the A41 at Tong, near Shifnal, on October 25.

Dennis Bennett, 82, and his wife Mavis Bennett, 84, of Albrighton, died after their Renault Modus collided with Smith's Volvo lorry at the junction with Stanton Road.
The case was adjourned for a trial date to be set and Smith was granted unconditional bail.
