They did, however, unanimously approve plans for16 homes on another site.

Proposals were put forward to build the homes on a site off the B4386 in Worthen, close to the village's border with Brockton.

But councillors said the site was not in a suitable location, was not balanced, was not sustainable and would impact on the area.

They also said it went against the wishes of the parish council, which had recently put together a parish plan outlining how it would like to see development progress.

Worthen with Shelve Parish Council had objected to the plan along with 30 objections from residents.

Speaking against the proposal, Councillor Heather Kidd for Chirbury and Worthen, said:

"This is against the character of development in the village, where it is single houses along either side of the road."

She also said there were concerns about the sewerage system around the site.

However, the committee approved plans to build 16 homes on the Davro Iron and Steel Co Ltd site in Stourbridge Road in Wootton, near Bridgnorth.

The plans involve demolishing the existing buildings and building the homes when the company moves to new premises.

One public comment was received in support of the proposals and no objections were raised by Claverley Parish Council.

Councillor Tina Woodward, for Alveley and Claverley, said: "In my opinion removing the HGVs on site will be a benefit."
