Thieves attack cash machines at Telford Tesco store
Police sealed off an area outside a Telford supermarket today after thieves attempted to smash their way into cash machines outside.
The three cashpoints outside Tesco on the Wrekin Retail Park were taped off with a police car stationed outside standing guard.
Two of the ATM machines had also been covered over.
Inspector James Ashton, of West Mercia Police, said: "We can confirm that an ATM machine at the Wrekin Retail Park in Telford was attacked.
"What we don't know at this stage is whether any money was taken.
"We are currently making enquiries with Tesco and the people who supply and operate the machines.
"We also sealed the area off to allow officers to carry out forensic investigations, and we will be looking at CCTV footage to see what that throws up."
The attack is believed to have happened in the early hours of today.
Inspector Ashton said no arrests had been made yet and investigations were ongoing.
A spokesman for Tesco said the company would be refusing to comment while the incident was the subject of an ongoing police investigation.
