Members of the Severn Rivers Trust and the Sustainable Eel Group were releasing 20,000 young eels into the River Teme in Ludlow.

It was part of a national campaign to increase eel numbers in the UK.

The River Teme catchment area was chosen after a national search because of its important scientific characteristics and its official status as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

It comes as the annual salmon run arrives in Shropshire, with leaping fish spotted in Shrewsbury.
