The chef, who arrived in the town last night, will be giving six demonstrations today and tomorrow to the thousands of visitors at the event.

Gates opened to members of Shropshire Horticultural Society at 8.30am, with the public queuing early to get into the show from 10am.

Mr Hollywood said: "I got here late last night and it's a lovely town. I had time to pop down for a quick drink from a local brewery but I had a quick slurp and I crashed out but now I'm ready for a great couple of days. The weather is perfect as it's not too hot."

Organisers are predicting visitor numbers will reach "bumper" levels this year.

Bosses of Shropshire Horticultural Society said they were expecting up to 50,000 visitors.

The official flower show website crashed yesterday evening for a short time due to the "overwhelming" scramble for tickets.
