Plan to build homes on edge of Shrewsbury
Developers have submitted plans to build almost 30 homes on farmland on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.
Shropshire Homes wants to build 26 detached and semi-detached properties on an a field off Corner Farm Drive in Bicton Heath.
The development, which would be sited near Squirrel Walk and Gains Park Way, would be made up of two-storey houses and would also see a new access road created.
It comes just days after the authority released the first details of a major development on nearby site off Welshpool Road which could see up to 750 homes and a new link road built.
A design and acccess statement submitted to Shropshire Council in support of the scheme, said: "The site is a sustainable location with bus stops on Gains Park Way, two local shopping centres at Bicton and Pensfold, Oxon Church of England school nearby, a pub and local employment opportunities at Oxon Business Park and the Royal Shrewsbury and Shelton Hospital."
If planning permission is granted the houses will be built within two years, according to developers. People have until July 17 to comment on the proposals at www.shropshire.gov.uk
The site has been earmarked for development under Shropshire Council's SAMDev scheme which sets out a vision to build 3,640 homes in Shrewsbury by 2026.
The Welshpool Road plans include 750 homes as well as the creation of a multi-million pound link road between the A5 bypass and the Holyhead Road.
The Oxon Link Road, which could cost up to £27 million, could form an initial part of the controversial £100 million North West Relief Road.
More than 1.2 million sq ft (12 hectares) of land will also be set aside for employment.
A primary school and "business campus" could also be built as part of the Shrewsbury West project.
The campus, which would have an emphasis on heath and care employment, would be off Clayton Way in Bicton Heath.
And there will also be scope for a new primary school as part of the development to help meet the needs of western Shrewsbury, according to officials at Shropshire Council. There are also plans to expand the shopping centre in Welshpool Road.
