Re-roofing work to start at iconic Ludlow church

Work will begin over the next few weeks to replace ageing roofs over two historic chapels at one of Shropshire's most iconic churches – after leaders secured the last part of the £270,000 needed for the work.

Officials at St Laurence's Church in Ludlow made an appeal earlier this year for nearly £40,000 so work could begin.

Now it is in place, contractors have been appointed and scaffolding will go up around the historic building next week before work begins in mid April.

It is part of a major £5 million renovation project which will be carried out over the next few years to breathe new life into the church, including plans to build a new cloister.

Shaun Ward, Vision for St Laurence's project co-ordinator, said the work would also see repairs to high-level masonry on the chancel and nave pinnacles.
