Pedestrian badly hurt after being hit by truck on A49 near Ludlow

A pedestrian was badly injured when he was struck by a truck on a busy road through Shropshire.

The man, in his 30s, was left with potentially life-threatening injuries after the accident on the A49 near Ludlow.

It happened near the roundabout by the Harry Tuffins service station at around 7.50pm yesterday.

The Mercedes Vario that struck the pedestrian, who is in his 30s, was travelling south.

The pedestrian was left with serious head, back and leg injuries and treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said today: "He remains there at the present time and is said to have multiple injuries which are potentially life threatening.

"Although in shock, the male driver of the Mercedes truck did not suffer any injuries."
