The animal's body was then flung on to a sign above the Costcutter store on Ludlow Business Park.

A customer reported the grim find on Sunday to horrified shopkeeper Shanti Nathan, who runs the store.

A spokeswoman for the RSPCA said: "The rabbit is believed to be a domestic rabbit.

"We would appeal to anyone who has any information regarding this incident, may know who the rabbit belonged to, or who may know any information regarding the circumstances surrounding its death.

"Anyone with information is urged to call the RSPCA cruelty line in confidence on 0300 1234 999."

Mrs Nathan had been so upset by the incident she refused to go outside until the body of the large brown rabbit was recovered by the RSPCA.

Her 23-year-old son Thars, said a man came into the shop and told his mother he had heard somebody had seen the animal being attacked by some yobs.
