Naomi Hirst, 27, of Meadow Road, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm after the drunken attack on another woman which took place during a night out in the town on September 29 last year.

The court heard how she had sunk her teeth into the victim's ear, causing scratches, bleeding, and part of her ear to tear away from her head.

Sara Beddow, prosecuting, told Telford Magistrates Court yesterday that Hirst had screamed at the victim before attacking her on a night out.

Miss Beddow said Hirst approached the victim and started shouting at her, referring to an earlier incident.

Miss Beddow said Hirst 'sunk her teeth into her and embedded them in her ear.

"It caused a tear on her ear which caused it to come away from the side of her head."

She told the court the victim had suffered bleeding and found it difficult to sleep following the assault.

Steven Meredith, for Hirst, said: "She has received a call from the victim who said she didn't want to go ahead with the proceedings but my client has gone ahead with them and been open and frank with the court.

"She had been drinking and she can't remember much of the attack but she knows some of the witnesses and has accepted that what they have said is true and will accept the consequences. It's not very often I come across someone with such a high level of remorse as her."

Hirst was given a 12-month supervision order and told to attend six anger management sessions.

She was also ordered to carry out 80 hours' unpaid work and pay £200 compensation and £85 costs.

She was also given a restraining order against the victim.
