Shropshire charity collectors are out looking for cardboard
Hundreds of people are expected drop off cardboard Christmas packaging and other items and help raise cash for charity as a community recycling scheme returns to Shropshire.
Transition Town Shrewsbury and Ludlow Pride of Place are to host cardboard collections on January 5.
It follows the success of an event held in Shrewsbury last year which saw around 1,000 people recycle at least 11 tonnes of cardboard on one day.
The Cardboard Christmas Group was set up following the axing of council-run kerbside collections in 2011.
Last January, volunteers went out on to the streets to collect unwanted cardboard which they sold to Oswestry Waste Paper. The proceeds were split between Hope House and Severn Hospice.
Alison Thomas, from Transition Town Shrewsbury said: "Shropshire Council has put in a few cardboard bring banks. I often hear of people not being able to use them because they are too full."
