Shropshire care home worker jailed after pensioner's cash taken
A Filipino worker at a care home in Shropshire who stole £5,200 from an 81-year-old resident after taking her bank card and pin number has been jailed for 10 months.
April Bustria, of no fixed address, took the money from the account of dementia sufferer Audrey Hartley, a resident at Stretton Hall Nursing Home in All Stretton, near Church Stretton.
The 27-year-old then sent the cash home to her family to pay for a heart bypass operation for her father, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard yesterday.
Passing the sentence Judge Robin Onions told her she could not have been in a more responsible position of trust, caring for a vulnerable person.
Bustria admitted fraud by falsely representing to Lloyds TSB that she had the authority to use the debit card of Mrs Hartley between December 12 and December 23 last year.
Home owner Morris Care said: "We were deeply shocked at the unforgivable behaviour of one of our members of staff."
