Thousands join Twitter search for April Jones

The search for missing April Jones dominated the internet as tens of thousands of people joined the hunt for the missing youngster online.

Thousands of people retweeted pictures of April and urgent requests for help in the hunt to find her from within minutes of her abduction at 7.30pm yesterday.

At one point today Machynlleth was the top trending topic in the UK and #findapril was the second most active trend on the social messaging site.

Details of the abduction of the little girl were also circulated on the Social Alert me website – a special network to help find missing people around the world and a similar site called Childs Alert UK.

BBC F1 presenter Jake Humphreys tweeted: "Urgent. Please share. Five-year- old abducted from Machynlleth, Mid Wales, in light coloured van," and tweeted a picture of April.

Former England rugby international Austin Healey also posted a picture of April and urged his followers to help find her.

Fan sites for TV stars Philip Schofield and James Corden also joined the online search.

Shelby Wilson tweeted: "Please pray for April and her family and hope she is returned safe x"

Chris Stark added: "Can't sleep. And so sad to hear about this missing five- year-old from Wales. Spread the word.
